Draytek's 2710 series brings much of the functionality of their world-beating 2820 down to a new low price point. Targeted at the SoHo (small office and home office) user it has a new case design which is both stylish and space saving. As well as desktop use, the 2710 series can be wall-mounted.
This listing is for the 2710VDN model, which includes DECT capabilities as well as wireless LAN and VoIP support. Other models include the base 2710 and the 2710N - which includes wireless but not voice-over-IP facilities.
The 2710VDN has a comprehensive specification that includes 802.11n wi-fi, VoIP, NAS capability, printer sharing, Dynamic DNS posting support and much more. Here are some of the details:
NAS
A USB storage device can be plugged into the USB port to provide Network Attached Storage. Any FAT32 formatted device (including memory sticks) can be used and the router will provide FTP access to the storage both locally and via the internet. Access can be controlled by usernames and passwords, each of which can have their own directories and/or file access rights. File Sharing is also available as a Windows 'network drive'.
Wireless
The 2710VN’s wireless capability supports 802.11b, 801.11g and 802.11n Draft 2.0 with the latest MIMO technology with three aerials (2T3R). WDS (Wireless Distribution System) is supported as well as WMM (wireless Multi Media).
Firewall
Draytek are rightly famous for their firewalls and the 2710 series has a superb, richly-specified ‘grown-up’ firewall implementation. This feature alone justifies the price tag of a Draytek router.
VPN Facilities
The 2710 series supports up to 2 dial-out VPN tunnels to remote hosts.
VoIP
The 2710VDN supports the connection of an analogue handset and an analogue phone line, with complete integration and fail-over. Calls can be made and received to/from either analogue or IP from the same handset.
Calls can be made or received through the analogue line or via IP and rules can be set for specific destinations (for example routing local calls via the analogue line where a free calls package is available). Accounts for up to 6 VoIP providers can be configured.
The Vigor 2710VDN supports all of these features with the addition of a fully-integrated DECT base station. The Vigor2710VDN is GAP Compliant which means you can use any DECT phone which is also GAP compliant - most are.
You can use DECT phones that you already have or new ones, but either way instead of connecting to their original bases, they will instead register and communicate with your Vigor2710VDN. You will still need the original phone 'base station' to charge the phone. Once the phone is 'paired' with the Vigor 2710VDN, they will still have access to your analogue line and but also be able to make full use of a VoIP service.
The Vigor 2710VDN acts as a mini PBX (switchboard) so that you can call between handsets by dialling their extension number or transfer calls between them. The wired or DECT phones can make several simultaneous calls using any combination of your analogue or VoIP/SIP lines (connections); most regular DECT systems do not allow operation of multiple handsets at the same time for separate calls.
Options
A variety of optional aerials are available for the wireless, including high gain, unidirectional and external-use options, and of course the N61 USB adapter is ideal for upgrading a PC without wireless built-in.
Warranty
A full two-year warranty is provided on all 2710 series products.
