Draytek's 2710 series brings much of the functionality of their world-beating 2820 down to a new low price point. Targetted at the SoHo (small office and home office) user it has a new case design which is both stylish and space saving. As well as desktop use, the 2710 series can be wall-mounted.
This listing is for the 2710N model, which includes wireless LAN. Other models include the base 2710 and the 2710VN - which includes wireless and voice-over-IP facilities.
The 2710N has a comprehensive specification that includes 802.11n wi-fi, NAS capability, printer sharing, Dynamic DNS posting support and much more. Here are some of the details:
NAS
A USB storage device can be plugged into the USB port to provide Network Attached Storage. Any FAT32 formatted device (including memory sticks) can be used and the router will provide FTP access to the storage both locally and via the internet. Access can be controlled by usernames and passwords, each of which can have their own directories and/or file access rights. File Sharing is also available as a Windows 'network drive'.
Wireless
The 2710N’s wireless capability supports 802.11b, 801.11g and 802.11n Draft 2.0 with the latest MIMO technology with three aerials (2T3R). WDS (Wireless Distribution System) is supported as well as WMM (wireless Multi Media).
Firewall
Draytek are rightly famous for their firewalls and the 2710 series has a superb, richly-specified ‘grown-up’ firewall implementation. This feature alone justifies the price tag of a Draytek router.
VPN Facilities
The 2710 series supports up to 2 dial-out VPN tunnels to remote hosts.
Options
A variety of optional aerials are available for the wireless, including high gain, unidirectional and external-use options, and of course the N61 USB adapter is ideal for upgrading a PC without wireless built-in.
