The Draytek AP-800 is a stand-alone wireless access point supporting 802.11n (draft 2.0), as well as 802.11b and 802.11g. It supports PoE (Power over Ethernet) via the LAN A connection, allowing the unit to be powered from a suitable switch (such as the Draytek P1080 or P2260). This makes it possible to install the AP-800 where no mains power is available.
The AP-800 can operate as a standard access point, a Universal Repeater (to extend the range of an existing wireless LAN), Bridge Mode (using two AP-700s to join two LANs together) or Station Mode (acting as a wireless client; able to connect a computer or games console etc. without built-in wireless to a wi-fi network).
The AP-800 also supports two independent LANs, A and B, each of which may have an independent, isolated WLAN.
When acting as an access point, access can be restricted by MAC address and/or via a radius server.
By the addition of a simple plug in 'N65' USB module, the AP-800 can operate in the alternative '5.8Ghz' band simultaneously with the standard 2.4Ghz band. As it's simultaneous, you can still use the 2.4Ghz band for some devices. The 5.8Ghz band is much less widely used and therefore less congested.
